Letters 03/31/2012

Around six of us met in London, and more later on, but we explored and had a short amount of fun there due to some complications. We had fish and chips and took a few pictures which I shall send as soon as possible. We waited for much too long, and the flights were hard for a person as tall as me, but I got through it in one piece and for that I'm thankful. Johannesburg has been wonderful so far. The climate is wonderful and the vegetation is verdant and lush. The MTC grounds themselves are quite a wonder to behold, and I will send you a picture soon. My companion, Elder Madise, is a native South African, as are many others, but the smell is hard to stand because many of them do not wear deoderant. The spirit is quite prevelant here, and the work is hard, much more so than I had previously antisipated. The food is good, and they give us alot of it. Tell everyone that I love them and that I am working hard. I can only email for a short period, so I'm sorry for such a short message, but know that I am well. I love you and I love everyone at home and I'm always praying for you.

The Farewell

A big thanks to everyone who came to support Jared! He gave an amazing talk on the Atonement in church, and bore a strong testimony. We had a great lunch afterward, thanks to everyone who helped! Thanks to Uncle B for cooking up all the burgers and dogs, there were some dang good salads too, and all the delicious cookies and cake.

Anyone else who has photos, please add them or email them to Mikki.

Leavin on a jet plane

Elder Davidson has arrived safely in South Africa! And his luggage even made it too! Nancy got a text from some film makers from the Church, who are filming a missionary documentary. They arrived in S. Africa 13 hours ahead of all the missionaries to set up and be ready when the missionaries arrived. We had seen them at the airport in Salt Lake, and they were nice enough to get Nancy's number to let her know he made it safe and sound :) Can't wait to hear how his trip was! He flew from Salt Lake to Chicago, where he had a five hour layover, then on to London where he had an eleven and a half hour layover! Talk about jet lag! He was very relieved to find out he would be flying with at least 3 or 4 other Elders headed to the same place. Good luck your first week in the MTC Jared!
